We are 'Friends' of Kennet Way Park
We are a group of friendly and smiley residents (mainly made up of mums + dads) from Oakley, a village in Hampshire and we want to make a positive change in our community.
We are currently fundraising to renovate our local green space area, by creating a space that becomes the heart of our village. A space that, unites a community, encourages people to spend more quality time together, to get outside and play, to socialise and give back to our community. Kennet Way Park will be a place for everyone, no matter your age.
What we are setting out to do and why we want to do it...
Our mission (and it is a big one) is to raise a total of £125,000 to renovate, extend and build a brand new, exciting, creative and imaginative play space for the children, teenagers, families and residents of Oakley to enjoy for years to come.
Kennet Way Park is in desperate need of some TLC. We are a large village with over 1000 children but the park, as lucky as we are to have one, unfortunately, does not captivate children for any real length of time. Most of the equipment is old and outdated. The area lacks character but has the potential to be a really fantastic space.
We want to create a space that becomes the heart of our village. A space that, unites a community, encourages people to spend more quality time together, to get outside and play, to socialise and give back to our community. Kennet Way Park will be a place for everyone, no matter your age.
We have until September 2019 to raise the funds and we hope to have a completed project installed and ready to use by autumn 2020.
BUT TO DO THIS WE NEED YOUR HELP

Some of the projects supporters
“I am pleased to support the aim of improving play facilities for the children of Oakley. For young children playing outside is vital in their development. As a school, we promote outdoor play to improve physical and social development and the availability of a suitable play area is important to encourage this. Kennet Way Park is the closest play space to the school and is a focal point of the community; it is a meeting space after school for parents, childminders and children in their care. It is a place where children play with their friends of all ages and can be active at the end of the school day, letting off steam and relaxing.”
‘Kennet Way needs investment. A centrally located park is a massive community benefit, providing a place for children to develop social and physical skills and to allow adults to form friendships. A good park also brings younger and older members of the community together helping to grow the sense of community. OCA wil be wholeheartedly supporting this campaign’
‘I absolutely support the campaign to revamp and redevelop Kennet Way Park for the children of Oakley. It is an extremely well needed redevelopment and I have no doubt once completed will be well used within the community.’
Kennet Way Park is underused and outdated. It is located at the heart of the village and should be an attractive, well maintained, safe and enjoyable outdoor amenity for active play. I fully support the efforts of the local community to work with Basingstoke Council to improve Kennet Way and make it a facility that we can all be proud of and that our children will want to return to again and again.
